Carpet Fibres

One of the most important components of your carpet is the type of fibre that it's made of. Today, roughly 97% of all carpet is produced using synthetic fibres which are designed to feature style, easy maintenance and outstanding value. All of our Richmond and Vantage carpets are made of only top quality, brand name fibres that you know and trust in just about every type of fibre category:

Nylon

  • two thirds of most carpet is produced using nylon fibres
  • remarkably resilient -- withstands weight and movement of furniture
  • superior colour and style selection
  • resists abrasion and will bounce back to original form
  • less susceptible to crushing, matting and daily wear and tear
  • easy maintenance
  • solution-dyed nylon is colourfast because colour is added in the fibre production

Polyester

  • soft to the touch
  • vibrant and colour-fast
  • easily cleaned
  • less suited to high traffic

Acrylic

  • most like wool
  • not as durable as nylon
  • low static level
  • soil resistant
  • resilient

Olefin (Polypropylene)

  • strong
  • fade and stain resistant
  • resists moisture
  • easy clean
  • often used in indoor/outdoor carpeting

Wool & Wool Blends

  • the original carpet fibre
  • luxurious, natural beauty and feel
  • generally costs more than synthetic fibres
  • wears well but not as durable as nylon
  • soil resisting properties
